Welcome to The Willow Clinic

Osteopath in the Northern Beaches

We provide Osteopathic and Cranial Osteopathic treatment to Allambie and surrounding suburbs of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We have an experienced osteopath who is dedicated and patient-centred. She has a caring and friendly approach and believes that the patient’s individual needs are of primary importance..

Our osteopathic treatments at The Willow Clinic are the perfect solution for not only relieving the pain, but also finding the root of the problem.

How I can Help

The Willow Clinic provides total family care from babies to seniors, treating a wide range of conditions including sport and work-related injuries.

Osteopathic treatment

An osteopath will assess the patient’s specific needs and symptoms and create a treatment plan that suits the individual. This will very often take into consideration the person’s normal, mechanical and working patterns and how their skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulatory system, connective tissue and internal organs function as a whole body unit. Treatment will then aim to restore the body to normal function, rather than providing a quick localised fix, which may only provide a temporary solution or could in fact make the problem worse.  Click here for more details.

Pregnancy

The dramatic changes and adaptations to a woman’s body during pregnancy and the birth often lead to aches and pains or may serve to increase underlying issues such as back pain which were already present. Osteopathic treatment at the Willow Clinic will be carefully selected and tailored to each patient and will take great care to maximise the comfort and safety of the developing baby.

Babies and children

The stresses and strains of a natural birth can place the baby under enormous pressure, particularly the skull.

There are also stresses and strains on a child as it develops from a baby to a teenager. Some of the issues that arise at this age include:

  • growth related bone pain
  • postural issues
  • back pain
  • headaches
  • spinal asymmetry
  • sporting injuries

You can be assured that Vanessa Fisher, our osteopath at the Willow Clinic, will take a full medical history of the child and be careful to ask both the parent and child questions to fully explore the cause of any presenting issues, before determining the most suitable treatment approach.

About Vanessa

Osteopath BOst (UK)

Vanessa is the founder and clinical director of The Willow Clinic, which is within Focus Physiotherapy in  Allambie. Vanessa prides herself on providing quality osteopathic treatment and a dedicated approach to patient care and well-being.

Vanessa Fisher has over 10 years of clinical experience as an Osteopath, working in the UK and Australia. She treats a diverse range of patients from babies to adults. She uses a combination of cranial, functional and structural osteopathic techniques and myofascial needling.

My Approach

Vanessa has an excellent understanding of human biomechanics, along with the physical and mental stresses that our bodies are placed under in everyday life. This has been invaluable when treating a variety of injuries. It has helped her to utilise her skills to manage patients who struggle with everyday activities because of pain and demands they have on their bodies.

My Process

Since having children of her own, Vanessa has expanded her knowledge and skill set so that she can pursue another area of interest, cranial osteopathy. It is a technique that she has developed a keen passion for. She has found it to be helpful to a variety of people, which include pregnant women, babies and young children.

My Background

Vanessa graduated from the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) with distinction. The BSO is the UK’s oldest school of Osteopathy and is respected throughout the world for providing high quality, innovative and modern osteopathic education.

Her skills as a clinical practitioner were considered in such high esteem by the BSO that she was invited to lecture there. She did this for 3 years prior to migrating to Australia.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect from my first visit?

The initial consultation will take up to an hour. This is due to your osteopath taking a thorough case history, asking you questions about your presenting complaint, your health, both past and present and your medical history.

In most cases, treatment will be administered following the case history and examination. However, in some cases where a serious illness or a contraindication to osteopathic treatment is identified within the patient’s history, treatment may not be a suitable option. A full explanation will be given and in some circumstances we may refer you to your GP for further investigation.

After the initial treatment your osteopath will outline an ongoing plan to best manage your symptoms and may give advice to help support the treatment benefits and to make you more comfortable.

How long will my consultation take?

Your initial consultation with your Osteopath will take up to 1 hour. This is to allow them time to take a thorough case history, assessment and perform treatment. All subsequent consultations are 30 minutes on average.

How will I feel after the treatment?

After treatment, patients may experience a period of discomfort or soreness and can be more aware of their symptoms. This is a normal response and will usually resolve within 24-48 hours. This is due to an increase in circulation around the area, which is initiated by your osteopath to promote the healing process. If you are sore or in discomfort more than 48 hours after treatment or your symptoms get worse and you are worried, please call us.

Will I have to get undressed?

Appointments may require a level of dressing down. We advise you to bring a pair of sports shorts. If you are uncomfortable with this a modesty gown can be provided. Please just ask your osteopath.

Is osteopathic treatment covered by private health insurance?

Yes. Osteopathic treatment is covered under all of the above.  Your rebate for private health cover will depend on your level of cover and the insurer you are with.

Is osteopathy covered by Medicare?

Not generally. However, there is a government initiative called the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program for patients who suffer with chronic conditions that can be referred to an Osteopath by their doctor. The patients are entitled to 5 treatments per calendar year. A Medicare rebate will cover some (but not all) of the osteopathic treatment. Patients are required to pay up front for their treatment and then claim the rebate back from Medicare. Speak to your doctor who will be able to advise you if you are eligible for this program.

Do you offer concessions?

Yes. We offer concessions for children up to the age of 16, students, veterans and persons eligible for a concession card.

Will treatment affect my exercise/gym program?

During the consultation your osteopath will discuss your exercise program with you and together you will form a management plan. This may be incorporating simple exercises into your daily routine or significantly adapting and modifying your daily routine until your symptoms improve.

Look forward to seeing you soon
